One windy fall day, Drew and Ellie decide to test the magical properties of Ellie’s favorite hand-me-down dress once again. After successfully wishing themselves back to a favorite family vacation spot, the two embark on a magical mountain adventure. As they hike a trail searching for simple treasures, Ellie slips down an embankment, causing her backpack to get snagged by a tree. Of course, the backpack contains the magical dress and without it the children cannot safely return home. When Drew tries to rescue the backpack, he finds himself in a rather challenging position. Now Ellie must find a way to save her brother, but a whole set of circumstances threatens to foil her plans. Will she be able to use the magical dress to rescue Drew before it’s too late?

Throughout this action-packed adventure, Drew and Ellie work together to achieve their goals, while always presenting a positive image of healthy sibling relations. The Daring Rescue teaches that although imagination and curiosity can often lead children astray, teamwork and common sense are two of the best tools for solving any problem.

The book also teaches children to appreciate and respect nature. Says Noland, “I want children to know that although nature is bursting with beauty, it can also be full of many hidden dangers.” He adds, “Likewise, when children are out in the world on their own, far from the comforts of home, they need to know how to overcome challenges, think clearly and stay safe.”

By writing The Daring Rescue, Noland says he hoped to build on the positive life lessons highlighted in his first book. “I want each successive story to serve as a strong reinforcement of the values depicted in The Magical Dress,” says Noland.
