In The Missing Medal, Drew and Ellie return for their third adventure with the magical dress. In this suspenseful chapter book, Drew and Ellie learn the importance of keeping a promise and telling the truth as they face a challenging moral dilemma.

When the children’s grandparents come for a visit, Drew’s grandfather shows him one of his most prized possessions − his Eagle Scout medal. Drew, who aspires to be an Eagle Scout himself someday, asks if he can borrow the medal to show a friend. When his grandfather agrees, Drew promises to be extra careful with the cherished keepsake.

After the first snowstorm of the season, Drew and Ellie spend the day off from school building a snowman near their friend Sanjay’s house. Although Drew promised his grandfather he’d take good care of the medal, he decides to bring it along to show his friend.

Later in the day, Drew panics when he can’t find the medal. Ellie suggests they use the magical dress to wish it back, but they soon discover their favorite hand-me-down doesn’t always do the trick. When they decide to return to the field near Sanjay’s house, they discover what the snowman knows...and find what they were looking for. But now Drew must decide what to do − should he keep quiet about what happened or should he tell his grandfather the truth?

Throughout this thought-provoking tale, Drew and Ellie learn valuable lessons about honesty, integrity and trust. But The Missing Medal also reinforces the ideal of living up to the expectations of those whom we respect. “As I started working on the storyline, I wanted to show children how important it is to be true to their word,” says Noland. “And when I started thinking about being trustworthy, it immediately brought the principles of Scouting to mind. I was a Boy Scout myself, and one of my proudest achievements is having reached the rank of Eagle Scout. I think it’s important to show children how to develop character as they work to achieve a goal.”
